10 Celebrities We've Lost So Far in 2018

Every year, we lose some of the celebrities we respect and love. While 2018 is not even half over, we’ve already lost many actors, public figures, and singers. As we mourn the loss of their talent and insight, we take time to remember their contributions. In this post, we remember ten of the celebrities who are no longer with us.

#1 - Jackson Odell

This former teen actor was best known for his guest appearances on The Goldbergs , Modern Family, and iCarly. He also acted in the film Judy Moody and the Not Bummer Summer. Besides his teenage acting career, Odell was a songwriter, and his Lauren Alaina song, “Wings of an Angel” was featured in the film, Forever Your Girl . Odell was only 20 years old. He died on June 8 of this year. About his passing, his family made this statement: “He will always be a shining light and a brilliant, loving and talented soul. He had so much more to share.”

#2 - Anthony Bourdain

Anthony Bourdain, the celebrity chef, passed away at the age of 61 in France. The cause of death was an apparent suicide. CNN issued this statement after his passing: “His love of great adventure, new friends, fine food and drink and the remarkable stories of the world made him a unique storyteller.” Bourdain is famous for multiple TV shows, including Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations and Top Chef , and wrote several successful memoirs about the food industry and his life as a chef.

#3 - Verne Troyer

Verne Troyer was best known for his roles in the Austin Powers movies, where he played Mini-Me. He also appeared in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone . Troyer passed away on April 21, while in the hospital. Troyer’s spokesman said this of him: “He wanted to make everyone smile, be happy, and laugh. Anybody in need, he would help to any extent possible.”

#4 - Scott Hutchison

Scott Hutchinson was the lead singer of the band The Frightened Rabbit. After 24 hours of being reported missing, Hutchinson was found dead on May 10. He passed away at the age of 36 near South Queensferry, Scotland. Hutchinson battled depression, and his bandmates said this of him: “He will be missed by all of us and his absence will always be felt but he leaves a legacy of hope, kindness and color that will forever be remembered and shared.”

#5 – Avicii

Avicii was a Grammy-nominated artist, DJ, and producer. He was found dead in Muscat, Oman, on April 20. Avicii, whose real name was Tim Bergling, was 28 years old. He gained critical acclaim for his hit “Wake Me Up”, before retiring in 2016 due to health concerns.

#6 - Kate Spade

55-year-old Kate Spade was a designer known for her handbags, office supplies, and clothing line. She was found dead in her apartment on June 5, after an apparent suicide.“We honor all the beauty she brought into this world,” her company, Kate Spade, stated online. “She will be dearly missed.”

#7 - Margot Kidder

Margot Kidder was an actress, most beloved for her portrayal of Lois Lane in the 1978 Superman. The actress, who played opposite Christopher Reeve in her best known role, also guest starred on many TV shows, including Smallville and R.L. Stine’s The Haunting Hour . Margot Kidder passed away on May 13, at the age of 69.

#8 - Barbara Bush

Barbara Bush, the former First Lady of the United States of America, passed away on April 17. The office of her husband, George H. W. Bush, called her a “relentless proponent of family literacy.” They also stated: “She is survived by her husband of 73 years, President George H. W. Bush, five children and their spouses; 17 grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and her brother, Scott Pierce. She was preceded in death by her second child, Pauline Robinson “Robin” Bush, and her siblings Martha Rafferty and James R. Pierce.”

#9 - John Mahoney

John Mahoney was best known for his role on Frasier, where he played Kelsey Grammar’s father, Martin Crane. Frasier ran on NBC for 11 seasons, and during its run, Mahoney was nominated for two Golden Globes and two Emmy Awards for his performance. Mahoney passed away on February 4, in a Chicago hospice ward. He was 77 years old.

#10 - Stephen Hawking

Stephen Hawking was a famous theoretical physicist, best known for his book, A Brief History of Time, and for the film, The Theory of Everything, which is based on his life. Despite living with ALS, Hawking continued to research, write, and work. He passed away on March 14 of this year. These actors, singers, creators, and public figures will be missed. We mourn their passing by celebrating the contributions they made to our lives, from Kate Spadehandbags to award-winning performances.
